TROVVEN Insider Intel:
We touched based with Enoteca Athena for the total 411. Take notes:
What's the vibe at Enoteca Athena?
Enoteca Athena has two different vibes to choose from so-to-say. There is a main dining area and large bar that create a lively, yet sophisticated feel. Lots of movement and positive energy. Low hanging string lights create a romantic, European underlay to the evening.
The other side of the restaurant has a quaint, rustic, Tuscan-style design that features lots of reclaimed wood, Italian pottery, and wine bottles galore. This is a more "formal" dining room. It features a pasta-making table that we use to make pasta throughout the day and during dinner service - guests get to see how the pasta is made.
What's a must-order on the menu?
Our menu is seasonal and changes accordingly using local products, but we have been able to maintain a decent amount of our menu year 'round. Many guests simply come in and only look at our specials, but that changes daily. As for regular items: "Nostro Amatriciana" is unbelievable and features guanciale produced by a 5th generation Tuscan butcher (friend of a friend of mine) and house-made pasta. As for an appetizer, I guess one could say that we have been known for our "Carciofini Fritti" for about a decade now (lightly battered and fried artichoke hearts) with a lemon-garlic aioli. And for a Bowdoin College student-favorite item, the "Esspio" is a hit (it's a house-made, pressed Italian sausage sandwich wrapped in a pita).
Why is Enoteca Athena the perfect pit-spot during a visit to Bowdoin?
We are located centrally and have a large parking lot right out back of the restaurant. We are a fairly large restaurant and have the capabilities of seating large parties which is key for families visiting their Bowdoin student.
